Real Return

Real return is investment return after adjusting for inflation.

Explanation

Real return is more informative than nominal return when evaluating long-term progress. It reflects how much purchasing power actually increased.

Example

If nominal return is 7% and inflation is 3%, real return is about 4%, before taxes.
